Parish Nurse Ministry
Parish Nursing combines professional expertise with a Christian "call" to ministry integrating faith and service in an effort to promote health, healing and wholeness of mind, body, & spirit from birth to death. It is a practical way to help provide the loving hands and feet of Christ to serve and comfort those in need.
The Role of A Parish Nurse Can Enhance...
1. The Congregations Health and Ministries By:
- Raising Awareness of Wholistic Health (body, mind, Spirit)
- Surveying and responds to needs of the congregation and members
- Providing emotional. spiritual. and physical support to members going through a crisis
- Connecting members in need of services within the community and health-care agencies
- Recognizing and addressing the need of support groups as indicated
- Meeting with members upon request
- Training, supporting and supervising volunteers within the caring ministry
- Fostering Christ's love in all situations (Caring as Jesus did while He was on earth)
2. The Pastor’s Ministry By:
- Being an extension of Pastor's ministry to the sick and homebound
- Introducing wellness programs in support of the pastor's ministry of Christian growth
- Collaborating as a team for caring for the Body of Christ
- Encouraging staff in health and wellness as individuals and as a team
- Being a resource to the Pastoral staff for helpful resources within the community
3. The Ministry in the Community By:
- Collaborating with community health services by offering support human care services/programs to the community at large
- Responding to a community crisis by providing food, shelter, and other support
- Opening health, educational and support groups to the community
- Serving on committees and boards of area human care agencies representing the congregation
- Being a "face of Christ's Care" in the community
- Responding with care and concern to people with special needs
