Lazarus House

Lazarus House
214 Walnut Street
St. Charles, IL 60174
630-587-2144
Lazarus House is a community home at 214 Walnut Street, St. Charles, offering safe shelter, food, and support services to men, women and children connected to St. Charles, Geneva, Batavia and western rural Kane County who are homeless, or at risk of becoming homeless. On the third Monday of each month members of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church take their turn, along with other churches and groups in the Tri-cities, to provide a hot evening meal, breakfast and a sack lunch for those staying.
Although not a part of St. Mark’s operating budget, Lazarus House receives
generous support from the people of St. Mark’s in the form of prepared
meals and financial gifts, including a special collection to buy gifts at Christmas.
The Life Center in Elgin
The Life Center in Elgin provides Christian-based counseling and material support to young women experiencing crisis pregnancies. Each month The Life Center provides services to 300-400 women in need.
St. Mark’s has elected to sponsor The Life Center because it provides the types of community services and evangelical message that is consistent with the church’s outreach goals. There are a number of ways for members of St. Marks to demonstrate their support. Members can:
- Drop off a donation of food, diapers, clothing, and so on in the collection bins (at the base of the east stairwell) for delivery to The Life Center.
- Designate the Life Center on their monthly Mission Envelope.
- Participate in various fund raising activities sponsored by The Life Center.
- Donate directly to The Life Center.

Northern Illinois Food Bank
Working with food for people without food.
Headquarters: St. Charles
(630) 443.6910
Founded in 1983, Northern Illinois Food Bank is the link between the national food manufacturers and local agencies that serve the hungry directly. The Food Bank acquires, gathers, handles, and distributes food to hungry people through a network of over 520 food-assistance sites in 13 northern Illinois counties. Without the 32,000 plus hours of volunteer help each year, NIFB would be unable to distribute an average of 65,000 pounds of food daily.
St. Mark's volunteers, 16 and over, help with this humanitarian effort at the St. Charles site on selected Saturday mornings throughout the year. Contact our St. Mark's coordinator, Pattie Macklin at 630-377-1494 if you would like to join them. You may learn more about the Northern Illinois Food Bank at: http://www.northernilfoodbank.org
